Most players start with the Common Shield at level 4, while the strongest shield in the game, the Ancient Shield, unlocks at level 71. Here is how to unlock, craft, and maintain shields across your playthrough.
How Shields Work in Palworld
Once created, your character automatically equips the shield. A bright blue bar appears above your health to indicate your current shield strength. When attacked by humans or Pals, this bar depletes first.
If your shield breaks completely during combat, you do not need to return to a base. Simply avoid taking damage for a short time, and the blue bar will automatically refill itself.
How to Craft and Upgrade Shields
- Unlock the recipe: Level up your character and spend Technology Points in the Technology Tree to unlock your chosen shield blueprint.
- Gather ingredients: Collect required resources such as Paldium Fragments, Wood, Stone, Fiber, Ancient Civilization Parts, or higher-tier items like Plasteel and Soralite Ingots.
