CD Projekt Red and co-developer Fool’s Theory have confirmed that The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past will launch in 2027. The expansion, which serves as a new, full-sized addition to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arriving exclusively for current-generation hardware.

Quick Facts

  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
  • Availability: Paid expansion; not included as a free update.
  • Region: Introduces Letten, a new open-world area in northeastern Redania.
  • Development: Collaborative project between CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory.

Expansion Scope and Story

Set 12 years after the base game, Songs of the Past follows Geralt as he travels to Letten, Dandelion’s homeland, following the bard's disappearance. The narrative focuses on the history of the de Lettenhove family and a long-standing curse. The new region is described as being comparable in size to Blood and Wine featuring dense settlements and detailed NPC routines.

The story introduces Lilla, Dandelion’s cousin, who serves as a companion and an optional romance interest for Geralt. Developers have noted that the romance path is flexible and allows players to maintain existing relationships with characters like Yennefer or Triss.

Gameplay and Combat Updates

The expansion integrates mechanical improvements from The Witcher 3 Remastered including refined movement, adaptive camera settings, and updated enemy behaviors. A significant addition to Geralt’s arsenal is a silver chain, a weapon inspired by the original Witcher novels and the first game in the series. The chain functions in the crossbow slot and acts as a tool for crowd control, allowing players to pull enemies out of groups or break the guard of armored foes.

New enemies confirmed for the expansion include:

  • Swarmions: Creatures that attack in large groups.
  • Slumbering Knight: A root-covered, skeletal boss.
  • Thorn Flowers: An archespore variant capable of underground movement and ranged poison attacks.

While the project was initially considered for a 2026 release, the development team has shifted the window to 2027 to allow for further refinement. The expansion is currently available for wishlisting on supported storefronts.
