CD Projekt Red and Fool's Theory have announced a surprise third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt titled Songs of the Past, alongside a full game remaster slated for September 29, 2026. Rather than focusing on Ciri or Yennefer, the new narrative kicks off after Dandelion goes missing following Belleteyn celebrations, drawing Geralt to the bard's family home in Letten within northern Redania.

What to Expect from Songs of the Past

According to vision director Karolina Kuzia and game director Jakub Rokosz, the expansion explores the relationship between Geralt and Dandelion. The story begins in Letten, a region untouched by war where Dandelion invites Geralt to his family manor. After waking up hungover from Belleteyn celebrations, Geralt finds Dandelion missing and must mediate an argument between Dandelion's grandmother and cousin Lilla before venturing into the local woods to investigate the curse of ancestor Count Humbert de Lettenhove.

Gameplay retains the core loops of the 2015 original while introducing a new weapon: a silver chain worn around Geralt's arm. The chain functions similarly to signs or bombs, allowing players to either quickly deploy it or manually zoom in to slow down time and target specific enemy body parts. It is designed to manage new enemy types like swarmions, which rely on outnumbering the player.

The 2026 Remaster Improvements

Preceding the expansion is a full-scale remaster aimed at modernizing the base game. Executive producer of external projects Jakub Kutrzuba and studio head Adam Badowski noted that the remaster updates combat, camera work, movement, animations, pathfinding, and accessibility. Developers focused on smoothing out friction points, allowing players to change targets mid-animation and interact with the environment in new ways, such as driving carts and using boats in Letten.
