Quick Facts

  • Game: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
  • New Feature: Apex Attachments for weapon progression
  • Reveal Date: August 21 at the Call of Duty NEXT showcase
  • Availability: Featured in the early access beta

Activision has detailed Modern Warfare 4 Apex Attachments, introducing a new tier of weapon progression that unlocks distinct functionalities after maxing out a weapon. Showcase details shared during the Call of Duty NEXT event on August 21 outline how these custom additions alter weapon behavior.

Unlike Prestige Attachments from Black Ops 7, Apex Attachments do not consume an attachment slot in the Gunsmith. Instead, they apply directly on top of a player's preferred build, with certain weapons supporting multiple options.

Player Consequence and Examples

Maxing out a weapon unlocks its associated attachment, with no weapon platforms or attachments locked behind Prestige. Players can also unlock shared attachments to accelerate leveling on alternative firearms.

Several specific Apex Attachments were highlighted during the showcase:

  • ISO Nightshade: Grants tracking rounds that follow hit enemies so players can pursue them.
  • Mosin: Adds a harpoon that can be fired or utilized as a close-quarters bayonet.
  • PPSH-41: Equips a thermite underbarrel launcher.
  • Sang 9mm: Adds an underbarrel shotgun.

Tactical knives paired with pistols and throwing knives for sniper rifles are also included. For players jumping into the early access beta, these attachments are available immediately within default loadouts, bypassing the initial leveling requirement for testing purposes.
