A Call of Duty player who publicly criticized the upcoming franchise reveal received a free beta code directly from the official developer account rather than a defensive reply. The interaction took place on X after a user named TristanSpoof quote-posted a reshare of the reveal trailer for Modern Warfare 4.

How the Free Beta Code Exchange Happened

TristanSpoof posted that the trailer looked bad and stated he would not purchase the game until he saw it running live. Within an hour, the official CallofDutyCM account replied, telling him he would get to see the game running live during the upcoming weekend and offered to direct message him a beta code.

Tristan accepted the code and responded with a gif, later clarifying that he is not turning his back on the franchise. Having clocked over 50,000 hours across the series since 2009, he noted that the new entry simply did not appeal to him personally, though he promised to test the beta.

Another user, Sly The Sledgehammer, subsequently replied to the account praising the move and requested a code as well, which was also granted.

Beta Dates and Launch Details

The goodwill arrives just ahead of the first early access beta weekend, which bundles the campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone together into a single test for the first time.

  • Early Access Beta: August 21 to August 25
  • Open Beta: August 28 to September 1 (featuring Nintendo Switch 2 support in the second wave)
  • Official Game Launch: October 23

The outreach follows recent community friction for Infinity Ward, which faced gameplay backlash over visual recoil in the lead-up to launch. Unlike recent titles in the franchise, Modern Warfare 4 will skip Xbox Game Pass when it arrives in October.
