Orbitals, the upcoming two-player co-op puzzle adventure from developer Shapefarm and publisher Kepler Interactive, is set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 3, 2026. Directed by Jakob Lundgren, the title focuses on the journey of two explorers, Maki and Omura, as they attempt to save their station from a supernatural cosmic storm.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: September 3, 2026
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 (Exclusive)
  • Developer: Shapefarm
  • Co-op Features: Local split-screen, online play, and Global Friend’s Pass

Gameplay and Co-op Structure

Designed as a dedicated two-player experience, Orbitals relies on asymmetric co-op mechanics. Maki, a mechanic, and Omura, a cartographer, possess unique sets of tools that players must coordinate to solve puzzles, navigate hazards, and interact with the game’s world. The gameplay is built around constant interaction between the two players, prioritizing character-specific actions to progress through the cosmic environment.

Multiplayer Options and GameShare

Players have several ways to connect. The game supports local split-screen using two pairs of Joy-Cons. For those playing online, Orbitals features a Global Friend’s Pass and GameShare support, which allows a Switch 2 owner to share the experience with a friend on either a Switch 2 or the original Nintendo Switch. Note that online features require an active Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

A Retro Anime Aesthetic

Shapefarm partnered with Studio Massket—known for their work on To Your Eternity Season 3 and the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners music video—to produce hand-crafted cutscenes. The game features a deliberate animation style designed to evoke 80s and 90s Japanese anime. While the game runs at 60 fps, the characters are animated at 24 fps, and certain environmental elements are animated at 12 fps to achieve a nostalgic, authentic look.

Editions and Availability

Pre-orders for Orbitals are currently available via the Nintendo eShop. In addition to the standard digital version, a physical edition will launch on September 3. A Digital Deluxe Edition is also planned, and players who purchase the standard version will have the option to buy a Deluxe Upgrade Pack at a later date.

Currently, there are no announced plans for versions on PlayStation, Xbox, or PC.
