A growing trend of “Larptubers” in the Minecraft community has sparked a wave of backlash, with several prominent creators calling out a specific account for impersonating the late Technoblade. The creator, known as Technolarp, has centered his channel around a persona that mimics the voice, humor, and Minecraft skin of the beloved creator, who died from cancer in 2022.

Technolarp, who also streams on the “LarpSMP”—a server featuring players portraying various recognizable creators—has defended his content, describing himself as an “intentional knockoff” created for entertainment purposes. He has maintained that his goal is not to replace the original creator.

Community Backlash Intensifies

The criticism from within the Minecraft community has been swift and pointed. Tubbo took to X to address the broader trend of larp accounts, stating, “Is it safe to say I’m really not sure I’m a fan of this whole larp account trend thing? It just feels off.”

Streamer Sneegsnag echoed this sentiment, directly questioning the morality of the impersonation by asking, “You’re not a fan of a dude impersonating our dead friend?”

Other figures have weighed in with similar concerns. YouTuber and event organizer Noah, known as Pikaclicks, criticized the channel for building a persona around someone who passed away from cancer. Noah argued that even if the creator were to donate a portion of his revenue, it would not address the fundamental issue of using an identity that belongs to someone who is no longer here to defend it.

The Position of Technoblade’s Family

The situation has placed Technoblade’s father in a difficult position. It has been confirmed that Technolarp reached out to him multiple times for his input. Technodad stated that he avoided responding because he did not know how to approach the situation, eventually describing his own answer as “inconclusive.”

Simon Collins-Laflamme, co-founder of Hypixel, expressed his support for the family, noting that Technodad has been put in an impossible spot. “If Technodad asks to delete the channel, he then becomes the villain to the larper fans,” Collins-Laflamme noted. “This is a lose-lose situation for Technodad.”

As of now, the controversy continues to highlight a divide within the community regarding the ethics of impersonation in the wake of a creator's passing.
