Riot Games has announced that active development on its League of Legends fighting game spinoff, 2XKO, will conclude at the end of December 2026. The developer cited a lack of sufficient adoption and player retention as the primary reasons for the decision.

Quick Facts

  • Development Status: Active development ends December 2026.
  • Availability: The game will remain playable on all platforms (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S) beyond 2026.
  • Roster Changes: All champions are now available for use in online play.
  • Refund Policy: Purchases made before August 20, 2026, are eligible for refunds, and players will keep the content they purchased.
  • Upcoming Content: Lux arrives in the September 8 patch; Samira will be added in the final major patch in October.

Changes to Gameplay and Features

Following the decision to wind down operations, Riot is adjusting the game's structure. Ranked mode is being removed to consolidate the player pool into a single matchmaking environment, though casual lobbies will continue to use skill-based matchmaking.

A new $40 bundle is being introduced that grants access to all skins, skin chromas, and taunts for every champion. Additional cosmetic items, such as avatar gear and stages, will be unlockable using in-game credits.

Reasoning Behind the Decision

In an official statement, the development team noted that while a committed community formed around 2XKO, the game failed to sustain the growth required for long-term viability. The studio stated that costs to operate the game currently exceed the revenue generated, and engagement levels remained flat despite the release of major updates. This announcement follows an earlier reduction in the development team, which saw approximately 80 staff members affected last month.
