Riot Games has announced that active development on 2XKO will end at the conclusion of 2026. The free-to-play tag brawler, which launched on PlayStation 5 in January of this year, will not receive further updates or downloadable content following a final bug fix patch in December.
Quick Facts
- Platform: PlayStation 5 (and PC via early access)
- Developer/Publisher: Riot Games
- Status: Active development ending in December 2026; servers remain online
- Final Updates: Lux arrives in September (Update 1.3.1); Samira arrives in October as the final character
Why 2XKO Development is Ending
According to a statement from Riot Games, the team closely monitored the game's trajectory following its PS5 debut and subsequent team downsizing earlier in the year. While the developer noted an active daily community, the studio stated that it ultimately had not seen enough players stick with the game to establish a sustainable path forward.
Despite the end of active support, the game's servers are not shutting down immediately, and the game will remain online for players.
Final Content Roadmap
Before development wraps up at the end of the year, two major content updates remain scheduled:
- September (Update 1.3.1): Adds the character Lux to the roster alongside a new $39.99 / £33.99 / €39.99 cosmetic bundle containing all skins, chromas, taunts, and finishers released up to that point.
- October: Adds Samira as the final playable character. Players who purchase the September cosmetic bundle will unlock Samira and her associated items at no extra cost.
- December: A final bug fix patch will be deployed, marking the conclusion of active content production for the fighting game.
Riot Games stated that the team will return to R&D following the final patch to apply lessons learned toward future projects.
