Publisher AMATA Games and developer Cat Hui Trading have confirmed that Changeable Guardian ESTIQUE will launch on August 6, 2026. The 8-bit side-scrolling shooter is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through both Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Game Overview and Mechanics
Originally developed as a new title for Nintendo Entertainment System ROM cartridges in 2024, this release brings the experience to modern consoles and PC. The core gameplay centers on the "Estique" robot, which allows players to swap between two forms:
- Fighter Form: Features a smaller vertical hitbox for precision movement.
- Robot Form: Nullifies terrain damage and focuses on recovery.
The game features six stages themed after major world cities. Rather than traditional power-ups, the game utilizes a regenerative life system and a "Super Weapon" special attack, which is activated by rapid-firing the shot button to build up scoring potential.
New Features and Accessibility
To support a wider range of skill levels, the port introduces several quality-of-life additions not found in the original 8-bit release:
- Quick Save and Load: Allows players to manage progress manually.
- Rewind Function: Enables players to undo mistakes during gameplay.
- CRT Filter: Simulates the visual aesthetic of vintage television displays.
- Gallery Mode: Provides digital access to the original instruction manual, box art, and cartridge visuals.
The release package includes both the NES and Famicom versions, allowing players to experience the variations in story and graphics between the two regional releases. The title also includes full controller support across all platforms.
