Gameplay and Mechanics
Echo Weaver is described as a "knowledge-based Metroidvania." Unlike traditional games in the genre that gate progress behind equipment or ability unlocks, Echo Weaver treats information as the primary upgrade. Players are tasked with mastering an unraveling time loop, using what they learn in each cycle to overcome obstacles and find new paths.
The game features an alien glaive that grants the protagonist reality-bending powers. Because the world resets, players are encouraged to use the loop as a training ground to memorize hazards and optimize their routes. The developer emphasizes that the experience focuses on rhythm and choreography rather than raw reflexes.
The World of Provenance
Set in a location called The Gilded Ruin, the story follows the last Weaver attempting to rebuild paradise. Throughout the loop, players will encounter a cast of characters affected by "The Collapse," including a refugee-protecting leader, a cynical cleric, and a cat that provides guidance through the ruins.
Time management serves as a central mechanic; the loop itself acts as a consumable resource. Players can collect items to extend the duration of the loop, then spend that time to trade, heal, or open new routes. The ultimate goal is to uncover the conspiracy at the heart of the world and break the cycle of purgatory.
