The announcement comes just under two weeks ahead of the game's arrival. What to Expect in Shift At Midnight
The core gameplay loop centers on investigating customers across randomly generated worlds. Players must work together to identify which customers are human and which are not. A failure to correctly identify the non-human threats forces players to shift tactics, requiring them to board up the area, deploy traps, and hide from incoming monsters.
The title includes several key features at launch:
- Online co-op for up to three players.
- A Story Mode featuring 13 randomly generated shifts.
- Gas station management mechanics.
- Proximity chat to facilitate communication during investigations.
- Character customization options.
While the game is launching with a focus on its Story Mode, the developers have already confirmed plans for an Endless Mode, which is currently slated for release in Q4 2026. Steam users can also expect public server browsing to be available either at launch or shortly thereafter.
Post-Launch Content
Players won't have to wait long for fresh content. The team behind Shift At Midnight confirmed that a major content update is scheduled for a few weeks after the initial release. This update will expand the game's roster of customers, enemies, and weapons across both Story and Endless modes. For those curious about the mechanics before the launch date, a demo is currently available on the game's Steam page.
Note that for those planning to play with friends across different platforms, crossplay between Xbox and Steam will not be supported.
