Organizers are encouraging players to participate by completely shutting down their consoles for the seven-day duration. According to the organization, this specific window provides publishers and developers with minimal impact while still allowing players to exercise personal choice.

The protest coincides with a busy release window for video games. Three major titles—Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, and Star Wars: Zero Company—are scheduled to launch on August 27, directly in the middle of the blackout period. Notably, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 includes the first-ever port of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which has remained exclusive to the PlayStation 3 since its 2008 release.

Broader Pushback Against Digital-Only Direction

While the exact level of participation remains uncertain, the initial announcement shared on X by Does it Play? has generated 1.5 million views, indicating substantial visibility. In addition to the upcoming August protest, the organization launched a Change.org petition titled Save Physical Games in June, which has accumulated 348,144 signatures.

Thus far, PlayStation has not indicated any plans to reverse its decision regarding the termination of physical disc production. However, the publisher has confirmed that upcoming first-party releases including Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey will still receive physical releases.
