Syed “SumaiL” Hassan has signaled that his professional Dota 2 career may be coming to an end following Nigma Galaxy’s elimination from The International 2026. The team’s run concluded on Saturday, Aug. 22, after a 1-2 loss to BoomBoys in the lower bracket quarterfinals.

During his post-match interview, the 27-year-old veteran reflected on the team’s performance and future, stating: “As far as for the team, I’m not sure. This is probably my last event.” While the statement stops short of a formal retirement announcement, it marks a significant moment for one of the game's most decorated players.

A Career Defined by Records

SumaiL first gained international prominence in 2015 while competing for Evil Geniuses. His early career milestones remain central to Dota 2 history:

  • Youngest Valve Event Winner: He won the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015 at 15 years and 361 days old.
  • Youngest TI Champion: Later in 2015, he helped Evil Geniuses win The International at 16 years and 176 days old, a record that stands today.
  • Kill Record: He holds the record for the most kills in a single game at The International, recording 31 kills on Tiny against OG at TI 2018.

In 2026, SumaiL returned to Nigma Galaxy in June after previously leaving the organization in March. He transitioned to the position 1 carry role, helping the team secure a top-six finish at TI 2026 after a successful run through the European qualifiers and a notable upset against defending champions Team Falcons.

Other Veterans Reflect on Competition

SumaiL is not the only high-profile player contemplating his future. Andreas “Cr1t-” Nielsen, who won TI 2025 with Team Falcons, also hinted that his time in the professional circuit might be ending. Following Team Falcons' elimination from this year's tournament, Cr1t- remarked, “For me, this is probably the last TI. I’m going to miss it.”

TI 2026 marked the 10th appearance for Cr1t- at the tournament, placing him among the most experienced active players in the scene, trailing only Clement “Puppey” Ivanov and Tal “Fly” Aizik.
