Nintendo’s tactical RPG series is making the jump to next-gen hardware with Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. Announced at the 2025 Nintendo Direct, the title introduces a new setting and a choice-driven narrative centered on the Heroic Games.
The Setting and Story of the Dagdan Empire
The game takes place in the Dagdan Empire, a land that has been ruled by gods for 1,500 years. The central hub, Dagsion, hosts the Heroic Games—a tournament where fighters from across the region compete for the prize of one granted wish. While the tournament serves as the catalyst for the journey, the four central characters are also tasked with confronting a mysterious, yet-to-be-revealed threat to the empire.
Players must choose one of four protagonists to follow, each with their own motivations for entering the tournament:
- Cai: A young boy fighting to free his imprisoned father; he uses a combination of magic and martial weapons.
- Dietrich: A skilled swordsman driven by the search for worthy opponents.
- Theodora: A queen aiming to fulfill a long-held ambition for her nation.
- Leda: A musician competing for a reason related to a personal vendetta.
While Nintendo has not confirmed the scope of the branching paths, the game is viewed as a spiritual successor to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, suggesting that player choices will significantly impact the experience and replayability.
Gameplay and Strategy
Fortune’s Weave maintains the series' staple grid-based, turn-based combat. Between tournament matches, players are tasked with managing their army in Dagsion. Preparation is key, as you will need to train units, gather resources, and build relationships to recruit new allies.
A notable addition to the gameplay loop is a limited-time system for side activities. Because time is finite, you cannot complete every available task before the next match, forcing players to prioritize their training and social interactions strategically. Outside of the capital, additional side activities have been teased, though their full extent remains unknown.
Connection to Previous Titles
The reveal trailers have sparked speculation regarding a potential connection to Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The footage includes a green-haired woman bearing a striking resemblance to Sothis, and the soundtrack incorporates musical cues from her previous appearances. Additionally, the name "Dagda" appeared as a foreign land in Three Houses, though Nintendo has yet to clarify if these two settings share a direct history.
Editions and Pricing
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is priced at $69.99 for the standard digital edition. For collectors, the physical "Dagdan Collection" is available for $119.99. This premium edition includes the game, a steel case, an artbook, character art cards, and a physical map of the world of Dagda.
As of now, Nintendo has not disclosed details regarding difficulty modes, permadeath, romance options, or potential downloadable content. More information is expected to emerge leading up to the September 2026 launch.
