Wield Interactive is bringing its latest real-time strategy project, TFC2: The Fertile Crescent 2: Collapse of the Bronze Age, to PC platforms with a confirmed commitment to native support. The developer has announced that the title is heading to Linux, Mac, and Windows, with a playable demo now available for those looking to get an early look at its survival-focused mechanics.
- Developer: Wield Interactive
- Publisher: MicroProse
- Platforms: Linux, MacOS, Windows
- Native Linux Support: Confirmed for launch
A Grim Take on the Bronze Age Collapse
Unlike traditional RTS titles that prioritize expansion and military dominance, TFC2 centers on the desperation of the Late Bronze Age collapse. Players are tasked with leading a small group of survivors through a world where trade routes are failing, food is scarce, and established kingdoms are losing control. The gameplay loop forces players to balance the survival of their village against the needs of their fighters, with the constant threat of drought, famine, and the arrival of the mysterious Sea Peoples.
MicroProse has confirmed that the currently available demo includes the first three campaign missions, offering roughly 45 minutes of gameplay. These missions are designed to introduce the core systems, such as the critical food management mechanic, which serves as both a means of keeping the population alive and a gauge for progression.
Native Linux Support and Development
For the Linux community, the announcement carries significant weight. Wield Interactive confirmed via email that TFC2 will feature native support for Linux and MacOS on day one. This decision follows strong support from the community for the studio's previous title, TFC: The Fertile Crescent. The game is built using the Unity engine, with FMOD integrated for audio middleware.
While native support is confirmed, details regarding Steam Deck verification remain unknown, and official system requirements have not yet been provided by the developer.
Modes and Factions
Beyond the story-driven campaign, the full release of the game is slated to include:
- Skirmish modes for quick-play sessions.
- Multiplayer support featuring dedicated servers.
- Tools for players to create and share custom scenarios.
The game will also feature several historically inspired factions, including the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Hittites. Each of these groups will come with unique units and distinct playstyles, intended to add depth to the multiplayer and skirmish experiences.
