Publisher Devir has launched a free Steam demo for The Red Cathedral, bringing the turn-based strategy game to Linux, Mac, and Windows players ahead of its full release this fall.

Strategy and Gameplay in the Demo
Created by designers Sheila Santos and Israel Cendrero—known as Shei and Isra—the digital adaptation builds on their 2020 board game, which has sold over 100,000 copies. The board game earned a Tric Trac d’Or nomination in 2021 and a Board Game Quest Awards final placement, holding an 8.4 to 8.6 score on Ludopedia.
In the digital demo, the primary goal is to outscore rivals by gathering more prestige. Players claim sections of a cathedral, gather the required goods, and add decorations that shape their final score. The game utilizes a rondel system for resource gathering, requiring careful turn management while monitoring the influence of clergy and city guilds.
Platforms and Technical Details
Alongside the PC, Mac, and Linux demo build, Devir has confirmed that mobile versions for Android and iOS are in development. Cross-play support is planned across all platforms for the 1 to 4 player strategy title.
While native Linux support is confirmed for the full release, certain technical aspects remain unknown. Developer communications have not yet clarified Steam Deck compatibility, Proton support, or Vulkan integration, leaving handheld performance untested ahead of the autumn launch window.
