Quick Facts

  • Entity: Palworld publisher Pocketpair and TemTem developer
  • Confirmed Stance: Pocketpair rejects the term 'Palworld rival' for TemTem Pioneers
  • Source Statement: John 'Bucky' Buckley states, 'We respect all developers and their games! We’re all just making games for fun!!'

Palworld publisher Pocketpair has pushed back against industry framing that positions upcoming survival spin-offs as direct competitors. Following the announcement of TemTem: Pioneers—a new spin-off for the monster-collecting series TemTem featuring crafting and resource management—online community discussions quickly labeled the game a 'Palworld rival.'

John 'Bucky' Buckley, head of publishing and communications at Pocketpair, dismissed that classification. 'TemTem are not our rivals,' Buckley said. 'We respect all developers and their games! We’re all just making games for fun!!'

The sentiment was echoed by the official TemTem social media account, which responded, 'We don't wanna be Palworld's rival! We deeply respect their game and work, and we just aim to be another option for fans of the genre.'

While both titles share surface-level similarities in the monster-collecting and survival space, TemTem's history in the genre predates Palworld, having entered early access in 2020 before reaching its 1.0 release in 2022. Both Pocketpair and the TemTem team emphasize that the projects are distinct games serving separate communities within the broader genre.
