Following its exit from advanced access on July 28, Halo: Campaign Evolved saw significantly higher player engagement on Xbox than on Steam and PlayStation 5, according to Circana analyst Mat Piscatella.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: July 28 (full release after advanced access)
  • Platforms: Xbox, Steam, PS5
  • Xbox Ranking: 4th in US daily active users (8% of total Xbox players launched it)
  • Steam Ranking: 14th in daily active users (2% of active users launched it)
  • PlayStation 5 Ranking: 29th in daily active users (1% of active users launched it)

Platform Engagement Breakdown

Circana's player engagement tracker shows that on its main launch day, 8% of total Xbox players launched the game, placing it fourth on the US ranking of daily active users. By comparison, daily active user placement landed at 14th on Steam with 2% engagement, and 29th on PS5 with 1% engagement.

Play time metrics also showed a split between console and PC users. The average console player spent over two hours with the game on July 28, while the average Steam player logged just over one hour.

Interpreting the Numbers

Piscatella noted that cross-platform comparisons are complicated by varying user bases and pointed out that the game sits at the top of the PlayStation Store's best-sellers list, indicating solid performance on Sony's platform despite the lower daily active user percentage.

The higher Xbox engagement numbers align with expectations given the established fandom, alongside availability through Game Pass Ultimate at no extra cost for existing subscribers. Meanwhile, a secret ending discovered in the game strongly hints that a Halo 2 remake is currently in development.
