Independent developer Syzoz Games has announced Barrow Bros, a physics-based co-op adventure that tasks players with pushing a wheelbarrow out of a collapsing cave system while a flood rises behind them. Set to arrive on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC in Q4 2026, the game relies entirely on split roles that require coordination to survive.
Quick Facts
- Developer: Syzoz Games
- Platforms: Linux, Mac, and Windows PC (Steam)
- Release Window: Q4 2026
- Modes: Local co-op, online co-op, and solo play
Shared Control and Split Roles
The core mechanic of Barrow Bros divides survival responsibilities between two distinct jobs. Player One handles movement, jumps, dashes, and glowing path markers, while Player Two steers, aims a flashlight, and swings a shovel. This setup makes poor communication immediately costly, especially since backtracking wastes precious time as water continuously floods the tunnels.
For players tackling the game alone, solo play requires one person to manage both control sets simultaneously, significantly increasing the difficulty of each climb.
Procedural Caves and Hazards
Every run uses a procedurally generated layout, meaning routes and dead ends change dynamically. Hazards such as lava rooms with rock monsters, minefields, and crocodile-filled mazes complicate the climb to the surface. In addition to environmental threats, caves hide an unseen creature that watches the team's progress.
Players can also customize their workers using a worker editor that alters body proportions, head styles, and color schemes. Syzoz Games plans to release a demo and an official gameplay trailer ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. Linux support is officially confirmed, though Steam Deck compatibility remains unannounced.
