Native Linux and Steam Deck Support
The Linux launch arrives with native support, avoiding the need to rely on Proton for the base release. Steam Deck support is also due to run well at launch, with Vulkan support included in the build, though specific frame rate and speed data have not been shared by the developers.
Players who previously purchased an early build through the Gaijin Store receive a bonus: they get a similar Steam edition at no extra cost. Progress links across both platform versions, allowing players to move between the Gaijin Store and Steam while carrying over their current progress.
Gameplay and Setting
Active Matter mixes grounded gunplay with warped sci-fi spaces where time, space, and gravity bend. Players hunt for active matter across unstable zones, facing human rivals alongside strange beasts and zone dwellers. Maps take inspiration from real locations, including a closed Soviet island, a quarantine zone in Central Africa, and a ruined North American city.
The gameplay follows a tense extraction loop where operatives enter a zone, complete tasks, grab loot, and attempt to escape. Gaijin.Net previously hosted broad tests for the early build, and an upcoming major update is scheduled to add a decaying American city and new weapons ahead of the September launch.
