Arc System Works' upcoming superhero tag-team fighter, Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, drew a peak concurrent player count of over 33,000 on Steam during its open beta held from July 25 to 27, 2026. While the numbers surpass beta benchmarks set by Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8, technical problems and region restrictions have left the fighting game community divided ahead of release.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: August 6, 2026
  • Platform: PC
  • Developer: Arc System Works
  • Beta Peak Players: 33,000+ concurrent on Steam

Region Locking and PC Performance Issues

Before servers went live, Sony implemented region-locking on Steam across more than 100 countries due to mandatory PlayStation Network account requirements. Backend data indicated restrictions across 132 countries, drawing immediate comparisons by players to the Helldivers 2 PSN controversy from 2024.

Once the global servers opened, PC players experienced significant technical snags. Reported issues included startup shader compilation freezes, cross-play lag spikes, mid-match frame rate drops, and streaming instability through software like Discord and OBS.

Developer Response and Planned Day-One Fixes

Arc System Works publicly acknowledged the technical difficulties on PC and released a six-part troubleshooting thread. As of July 31, the studio committed to day-one fixes targeting CPU load reduction, startup shader compilation, rollback netcode stability, and cross-play connection improvements.

Despite the technical hurdles, the roster continues to expand. Phoenix Cyclops is confirmed as a post-launch DLC fighter, and Iron Man character guide trailers are currently circulating ahead of the August 6 release date.
