GiantX moved closer to VALORANT Champions 2026 qualification after overcoming Challenger side Eintracht Frankfurt in the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins. Speaking to THESPIKE.GG following the series, GiantX player westside pointed out that despite the win, the roster continues to face a recurring problem with sluggish starts that force them into dramatic comebacks.

Addressing the Slow Start Pattern

The series against Eintracht Frankfurt required GiantX to recover from early deficits on both the second and third maps, including an initial 0-6 hole at one point. Westside noted that this pattern mirrors the struggles that held the team back in 2025.

"Like last year, we were sometimes down 0-5 and had to fight our way back into the game, or we'd lose the first map and then have to win the next two," westside said. "I think we need to start strong from the very first round, set the pace early, and not let the game snowball in our opponents' favor."

Agent Flexibility and Role Shifting

GiantX has also adjusted how it divides responsibilities between westside and Flickless, particularly regarding Phoenix. Westside explained that Phoenix allows him to play more independently with aggressive flashes and duels, whereas Cypher is better suited for anchoring sites and gathering information. For Flickless, Cypher serves maps that reward cross-map rotation.

This shift puts westside back on a duelist after spending all of Champions 2025 on Cypher. Discussing the broader sentinel meta, westside noted that double-duelist compositions with high-mobility entries make it difficult to justify picks like Vyse, while pointing to Deadlock as an alternative option whose GravNet carries a 60-second cooldown limitation.

The Road to Shanghai

The stakes for the Play-Ins remain high as teams compete for a spot at Champions Shanghai. The double-elimination bracket features best-of-three series, shifting to best-of-five for the lower final and grand final. First place awards $100,000 and eight Championship Points, while second place yields $65,000 and six points. GiantX's next match will determine if they advance in the upper bracket or must fight through the lower bracket to keep their qualification hopes alive.
