French esports fans won't need a streaming subscription to follow the action this summer. The Esports Foundation has signed France Télévisions as an official media partner for the Esports World Cup 2026, bringing daily coverage of the event to national television for the first time.

The tournament, which moves to Paris this year, is scheduled to run from July 6 through August 23. Starting July 7, the public broadcaster will air "La Minute EWC", a daily highlights segment produced by the European esports promoter N.E.O. (New Esports Org.), which was co-founded by Bertrand Amar and Matthieu Dallon.

Mainstream Visibility for the EWC

By securing a slot on France’s largest public broadcaster—a network typically reserved for high-profile events like the Olympics and UEFA Nations League matches—the Esports Foundation is aiming to reach an audience well beyond traditional Twitch viewers. Mohammed Al Nimer, Chief Commercial Officer at the Esports Foundation, noted that the partnership is part of a broader ambition to move esports into the global sports mainstream by increasing accessibility.

This isn't the first time France Télévisions has ventured into competitive gaming. The broadcaster previously served as an exclusive streaming partner for the La Banque Postale Coupe de France de League of Legends and covered the Aux Jeux Streamers! event, which mixed television personalities and Olympic athletes in virtual sports competitions ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

A Massive Commercial Rollout

The broadcast deal is one piece of a significantly larger operation for this year's event. The 2026 edition brings together more than 2,000 players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries to compete across 25 tournaments and 24 games, with a total prize pool exceeding $75 million.

Commercial partnerships are also playing a central role in the Paris event:

  • Sony Collaboration: PlayStation consoles will be used throughout the competition, with additional fan activations through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Television.
  • Documentary Series: A second season of Esports World Cup: Level Up, directed by R.J. Cutler, will be distributed globally via Prime Video.
  • Global Ambassadorship: Cristiano Ronaldo returns as the tournament's global ambassador for the second consecutive year.
  • International Streaming: Naver’s game streaming platform, Chzzk, has secured exclusive Korean-language rights for all 25 events.

The scale of these partnerships builds on the momentum of the 2025 edition, which saw over 750 million viewers worldwide and generated 350 million hours of watch time. With the backing of the French Ministry of Sport, Youth and Community Life, and the consistent involvement of partners like Secretlab, the 2026 event is shaping up to be the most visible iteration of the competition to date.
