Ryan Lastimosa, one of the founding members of Respawn Entertainment, has returned to the company as Franchise Art Director to work once again on Apex Legends. Lastimosa originally left the company in early 2023.

During his initial 12 years at Respawn as a Senior 3D artist, Creative Director, and 3D art director, Lastimosa helped shape the visual style and grounded aesthetics of the Titanfall universe and early Apex Legends. As the live-service game has entered its 30th season, its visual direction has shifted away from that initial gritty look toward shinier, more colorful designs, best seen in recent event gear and Mythic Prestige skins like Wattson's bubblegum-colored armor.

With Lastimosa back at the helm of the art department, players can reasonably expect a shift back toward the realism, dirt, and grime of the original Titanfall era. While changes in development personnel do not automatically guarantee an immediate overhaul, the return of a key architect behind the franchise's original visual identity points toward a potential aesthetic course correction for future updates and cosmetics.
