Synaptic Simulations has released its first professional add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator: the A220 airliner. The aircraft is available now via the in-sim Marketplace for $64.99.
Project Background
The A220 project began as a community-led initiative on Discord and Reddit around 2020. The core team, consisting of eight developers, initially started the project as a freeware effort while members were still in high school. The group eventually partnered with iniBuilds to transition the aircraft into a commercial product.
Development and Features
The development process involved multiple rebuilds of the 3D model and systems architecture to meet modern simulation standards. iniBuilds contributed production resources, texturing, the passenger cabin, liveries, sound packages, and a bespoke Electronic Flight Bag (EFB).
Key Technical Features
- Custom Avionics: Includes a graphical flight-planning system for mid-flight route modifications, holds, and crossing constraints.
- Interactive Systems: Features a 3D terrain map using a custom compression algorithm and a deep electrical system simulation with functional circuit breakers.
- Audio: Includes the A220 engine’s distinct “whale howl” sound profile.
- Visuals: Fully modeled passenger cabin and cockpit, supported by high-fidelity textures.
According to CEO Harsh Duba, the team focused on filling a gap in the simulation market by providing a high-fidelity version of the modern A220, which lacked a detailed simulation at the start of the project. Synaptic Simulations intends to support and expand the aircraft through future updates based on community feedback.
