SanDisk has revealed the Optimus GX C50 storage expansion line, adding three new options for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S owners. The cards come in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, providing additional space to run games that require the console's high-speed SSD performance.
Compatibility and Performance
Like existing licensed expansion cards for the platform, the Optimus GX C50 series leverages the Xbox Velocity Architecture. This allows the cards to maintain the low-latency performance required to run titles optimized for Xbox Series X|S directly from the external drive, rather than needing to move them to the internal storage first.
Pricing and Availability
While the cards are currently listed on the official SanDisk website, they have not yet launched. Each listing currently features a notification option for interested buyers. The announced pricing for the three variants is as follows:
- 512GB: $109.99 (£88.99)
- 1TB: $199.99 (£177.99)
- 2TB: $339.99 (£249.99)
Each card includes a one-month trial of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and one month of Discord Nitro.
Context for Players
These expansion cards are designed to address storage constraints for users with growing digital libraries. While cheaper external hard drives and standard SSDs can be connected to Xbox Series X|S consoles, they generally cannot run modern optimized titles directly. The SanDisk cards serve as a proprietary solution to maintain full feature compatibility with the console’s internal storage speeds.
