Developer Game Science has debuted a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the follow-up to its 2024 action RPG Black Myth: Wukong. The footage provides a first look at the mechanics and visual direction of the second entry in the studio's series based on Chinese folklore.

Gameplay and Combat Details

The new trailer confirms that combat will retain core similarities to its predecessor, including a reliance on dodges and parries. A notable addition involves elemental interaction: the player is shown igniting a fire to damage enemies, absorbing that blaze into their sword, and then utilizing the fire-infused weapon against subsequent groups of foes.

The trailer also highlights a boss encounter that features a summoning mechanic. Players are able to bring an ally into the fight, with the video demonstrating the ability to temporarily switch control to the summoned character during the battle.

What This Means for Players

While the visual fidelity and animation quality align with the studio's previous work, the trailer serves as an early look at a project still in development. The title is currently confirmed for release on PlayStation 5, though an official launch date has not been provided by Game Science.

For those familiar with Black Myth: Wukong, the core challenge for the studio remains balancing its scale. While the previous game was noted for its visual presentation, some players reported issues with confusing environmental navigation and overly expansive map sizes. Whether Zhong Kui addresses these structural concerns will depend on the final product, as the current footage focuses primarily on combat systems and aesthetic design.
