Developer Frogwares has officially launched The Sinking City 2 on PlayStation 5. Moving away from the open-world detective structure of the original game, the sequel shifts fully into a semi-open-world survival horror experience with an increased focus on combat, survival, and exploration set within the gloom of Arkham.

Quick Facts

  • Game: The Sinking City 2
  • Developer: Frogwares
  • Release Date: August 18, 2026
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 (alongside PC and Xbox Series S/X)

Survival Horror Gameplay and Arkham's Flood

The story takes place in Arkham following a mysterious flood that engulfed the city. With rising waters forcing an evacuation, only a handful of barely sane survivors and arriving Eldritch abominations remain.

While combat drives much of the gameplay, investigation remains as an optional layer for players seeking to dig deeper into the city's mysteries. Those who choose to investigate are rewarded with resources, shortcuts, and useful knowledge.

Enemies and Creature Design

Creature designer Evgeny Maloshenkov detailed five primary enemies players encounter in the flooded city:

  • Slither Worms and Abominations: Worm-like deep-sea parasites that form hive minds to control human corpses in service of Yog-Sothoth, resulting in erratic, dislocated movements.
  • Stygian Harvester: A small, fast, and fragile enemy that uses long human arms to squeeze through tight spaces, set ambushes, and retreat into darkness.
  • Acheronian Juggernaut: A massive Wylebeast returning from the original game, featuring six arms, six legs, a huge open maw, and redesigned combat behavior.
  • Lethian Revenant: A human transformed into a humanoid Wylebeast that splits its head vertically to spit bacterial fluid from a distance while avoiding direct confrontation.
  • Deep One Raider: Ocean-dwelling, humanoid fish-like creatures capable of surviving on land, known for immense physical strength, claw attacks, and unpredictable movement.

The launch marks a significant milestone for Frogwares, developed by a team working in Ukraine amidst ongoing wartime challenges.
