Following the recent release of the Heavy Cavalry update, the War Thunder development team has provided a first look at the next major addition for the British research tree: the Australian CA-27 jet fighter.

Design and Specifications

While the CA-27 shares a visual resemblance to the American F-86 Sabre, it is being treated as a distinct aircraft. The integration of the Rolls-Royce Avon engine required significant structural changes, including a redesigned air intake and a modified rear fuselage. The developers have also adjusted the wings to support additional fuel capacity and a new suite of external weaponry.

Key technical changes from the standard Sabre design include:

  • Engine: Replaced with the Rolls-Royce Avon.
  • Armament: The standard machine guns have been replaced by 30 mm ADEN autocannons.
  • Ordnance: The aircraft will feature new external weapon options not previously available on the F-86 series.

Impact on Gameplay

For players operating within the British research tree, the CA-27 is intended to address a specific tactical void. The developers characterize the aircraft as a maneuverable dogfighter, aiming to provide handling qualities similar to the Hunter, but contained within the more agile airframe of a Sabre.

The model is currently being built from scratch using original documentation and photographs. The team notes that both vehicle specifications and visuals remain subject to change as development continues ahead of the next major update.
