Adelaide-based developers Powerbomb Games and Tinker Town have confirmed that Pro Jank Footy will officially launch on August 13, 2026, at 9am AEST. The arcade-oriented title, which draws inspiration from classics like NBA Jam and NHL ’94, aims to deliver a version of Australian Rules Football that prioritizes absurdity over realism.
Quick Facts
- Release Date: August 13, 2026 (9am AEST)
- Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2
- Developer: Powerbomb Games and Tinker Town
The game features a chaotic suite of power-ups, including portals, brick walls placed between goal posts, and the ability to double the number of players on the field. In a break from traditional sports logic, the game even allows a third team to join mid-match or transforms all players into footballs. One power-up even introduces a player's dad’s car to the team roster.
A Comedy-Infused Development Team
The development is being led by David Ashby, co-creator of the comedy series Danger 5. The project also features commentary from Broden Kelly of the comedy group Aunty Donna. To celebrate the release date announcement, the team commissioned a launch trailer created by Australian animator and filmmaker Michael Cusack, known for his work on Smiling Friends, Koala Man, and YOLO: Crystal Fantasy.
"Pro Jank Footy is a love letter to Aussie Rules Footy and our absurd culture," Ashby said. "Our game hopes to deliver an authentic arcade footy experience fans have hoped for, and an accessible entry point for anyone new to the sport, or for those who have no interest in sport whatsoever."
Designed for solo play, couch multiplayer, and online matches, the game is set to arrive on all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Ashby noted the unique environment of the team's home base, stating, "There’s not a lot to do here [in Adelaide] except for working for the government, playing professional sport, or making strange things. Somehow, with Pro Jank Footy, we’ve managed to do all three."
