A new psychological visual novel titled Tulpa: The Unseen Lover has been announced for PC. Developed by Horse Position—a studio founded by a married couple who formerly worked as animators on the Spider-Verse films—the title explores the mental state of a 23-year-old manga artist named Nick.
The narrative centers on Nick’s life as he lives alone and contends with a "tulpa," an entity he has manifested through the power of his own mind. Players are tasked with naming this character and choosing her outfits, while navigating narrative pathways that determine whether the situation remains manageable or spirals into a "living hell."
Visual Style and Gameplay
The game’s aesthetic reflects the background of its creators, featuring a comic-book-inspired look with half-tone effects, detailed character animations, and specific framing techniques. While the initial presentation of the tulpa appears lighthearted, the trailer suggests an underlying psychological tension, with the player's choices influencing the tone of the story.
