CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, closing out Gamescom Opening Night Live with a surprise reveal focused heavily on mechanical updates to the 2015 RPG.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: September 29, 2026
  • Access Method: Free upgrade for all existing owners on current-gen platforms
  • Developer: CD Projekt Red
  • Key Additions: Revamped combat animations, new Witcher signs FX, enhanced monster behaviors, and improved mount handling

Combat and Traversal Improvements

While the original game's floaty combat has remained a frequent talking point since launch, the remaster aims to address those criticisms directly. CD Projekt Red's official site promises that players will "feel every swing, sign, and dodge like never before" through revamped animations, brutal new finishers, and an adaptive camera designed to make action feel more dynamic and kinetic.

Accompanying the combat overhaul are enhanced monster behaviors, revamped mount handling, and improved traversal and movement mechanics across the board.

Upcoming Demos and DLC Streams

Players attending Gamescom will have access to an extended hands-on demo of the remaster. Additionally, CD Projekt Red is hosting a series of streams to showcase both the new remaster features and the upcoming Songs of the Past DLC, which includes a silver chain weapon drawing on source books and the original 2007 RPG.
