To mark the two-year anniversary of The First Descendant, the development team recently held a roundtable with content creators to address player feedback regarding content structure, character balance, and reward systems. The discussion provided a roadmap for upcoming shifts in Season 4 and beyond.

New Modes and Farming Adjustments

Addressing complaints about repetitive farming, the team confirmed that Season 4 will focus on long-term goals through new modes including the Mega Dungeon, Trials, and Cradle of Evolution. These additions are designed with randomized variables to prevent the feeling of repetitive loops. To reduce farming fatigue, the developers plan to shift away from specific-area item farming, instead favoring bulk rewards and varied efficiency across different regions.

Existing content is also seeing a structural overhaul. Breach Tracking will receive updates allowing players to consume 10 Dimensional Stabilization Keys at once to earn rewards equivalent to 10 runs, effectively cutting down on manual repetition. Additionally, the team is actively fixing "bullet-sponge" issues with commanders in Bounty Operations and improving visual feedback for key item pickups.

Character Balance and Identity

The developers acknowledged that the current meta has leaned heavily into a "DPS-only" axis, which has limited the diversity of playstyles for many characters. Future updates aim to broaden this by introducing new metrics for success, such as stealth, assassination, and Colossus takedown power.

Regarding specific character adjustments:

  • Male Descendant Updates: Following the July Blair rework, numerical buffs for Kyle and Keelan are scheduled for August.
  • Build Diversity: To combat the current reliance on "extra gun damage" and "infinite reload" patterns, the team will prioritize diversifying growth elements in Season 4.
  • Luna: A rework for Luna is planned before the end of Season 4, Episode 1 to improve her single-target damage output.
  • Skill vs. Gun Meta: The team aims to cycle between skill-based and firearm-based metas. Transcendent Weapons, arriving in Season 4, are intended to bolster firearm-focused Descendants like Gley, Ajax, and Enzo.

Transcendent Weapons and Modules

A new quality system for Transcendent Weapons will ensure that as players farm more, their "quality floor" rises. Once a player hits a quality level of 400, they will exclusively receive top-tier drops. These weapons will support a limited reroll function, allowing players to lock in secondary abilities with extra materials. Furthermore, a new quality-of-life feature will be added to skip manual rerolling by automatically consuming materials until a chosen effect is achieved.

On the topic of competitive leaderboards, the developers are considering splitting rankings into two categories: one that includes Ancestors Modules and one that focuses purely on build and skill. While they are not planning to remove Ancestors Modules from the game, they intend to use events to provide more readjustment devices, making high-tier options more accessible to the wider player base.

Social Features and Future Roadmap

While players have requested expanded guild and clan systems, the developers stated that their current priority is strengthening the party system for the upcoming 3v3 PvEvP mode, Colosseum-A. A more comprehensive clan system remains a possibility for the future. Additionally, players can expect more character-focused content, including a dedicated story update for Viessa later this year.
