During the Kinetic Publishing Showcase, Half Mermaid Productions revealed its latest project: Precognition. The title is a collaborative sci-fi thriller developed by Immortality creator Sam Barlow and horror director Brandon Cronenberg.
Quick Facts
- Platforms: PC (Steam wishlist now available)
- Release Window: Spring 2028
- Key Mechanics: FMV cinematics, non-linear narrative, and choice-driven cause-and-effect gameplay
In Precognition, players take on the role of Diana, a protagonist equipped with an experimental brain implant that provides visions of the future. The gameplay focuses on the tension between these visions and present-day memory; as players commit events to memory, they alter the future they have already witnessed. Barlow described the project as an attempt to push the limits of non-linear storytelling and player agency.
Cronenberg’s involvement aims to ground the project in an authentic sci-fi horror perspective. According to the announcement, the game will follow the structural foundation of Barlow's previous work, such as Immortality, Her Story, and Telling Lies, by prioritizing subjective, experiential storytelling where no two players have identical experiences.
While the game is now confirmed for a 2028 launch, interested players can currently add the title to their wishlist on Steam.
