Thatgamecompany, the studio behind indie titles such as Journey, Flow, Flower, and Sky: Children of the Light, has announced the launch of a new publishing arm named Thatgamepublisher.

The developer's move into publishing follows a path taken by other studios in recent years. For instance, Pocketpair announced its own publishing arm following the launch of Palworld, which recorded over 32 million players in its first year.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Thatgamecompany co-founder Jenova Chen explained the reasoning behind the expansion. Successful indie games often operate on modest budgets initially, Chen noted, and when a title achieves major success, it can result in a sudden influx of capital.
