If you prefer your gaming sessions served in bite-sized, emotionally resonant portions, Imagine We Were Human is shaping up to be a title to watch. Developed by Vine Moss Games, this upcoming anthology collects a series of short, literary-focused experiences centered on the quiet, messy, and deeply human moments that often go overlooked.

Small Games, Big Feelings

Rather than demanding dozens of hours of your time, Imagine We Were Human is built around the concept of "coffee break games." The compilation features a variety of short experiences, some involving text-heavy branching paths and others utilizing unique, repeatable mechanics to tell their stories. The team has also included five-minute "game poems" to provide a specific rhythm to the collection, acting as brief, touchable memories.

The anthology covers a wide emotional spectrum through its included titles:

  • In Time, On Distance: A look at the tension of speed dating and the hope for connection.
  • MND Anatomy: An internal, mind-bending debrief following a dinner date.
  • Seconds Between Summer: A dual-screen swimming title that explores how a year can change a person.
  • Liminal Strangers: A game poem focusing on the hidden ties between people walking past each other.
  • Within Rotation: An exclusive addition that imagines conversations through the lens of a gumball machine.

Steam Deck and Linux Support

While a firm release date is still missing, the developer has confirmed that Imagine We Were Human is heading to PC via Steam. For the Linux and handheld crowd, the project shows promise: the team, which operates on an Arch-based Linux foundation, has reported that Windows builds have been tested successfully via WINE.

The developers are actively hoping to secure official Steam Deck and Linux certification, though they are currently waiting on Valve to finalize that process. Because the game is built in the Godot engine, it aligns well with open-source workflows. While there is no current data on frame rates or performance, the low-pressure, narrative-focused nature of the gameplay suggests it could be a strong candidate for portable play.

Try the Demo Now

You don't have to wait for the full launch to get a feel for the collection. The Steam page is live, and a playable demo is available for download right now. It is a solid way to see if these small, human-centric stories resonate with you before the final version arrives.
