A new PC modification for Grand Theft Auto V introduces a custom gang notoriety system, fundamentally altering how rival factions interact with the open world. Rather than replicating the state monopoly on violence enforced by the police, who actively hunt down players before eventually giving up the search, this system targets rival group dynamics across the map.
In unmodded gameplay, shooting groups like the Ballas or Cartel members results in temporary hostility that vanishes the moment players step out of eyesight. The newly introduced notoriety modification attempts to address this live-and-let-live behavior. However, testing shows that the mod's current configuration primarily causes rival faction members to attack other non-player characters in the vicinity while largely ignoring the player.
Quick Facts
- Game: Grand Theft Auto V Legacy (PC)
- New Development: A fan-made gang notoriety system mod
- Platform: PC
- Report Date: August 26, 2026
Rockstar Games' open-world sandbox has long relied on the police force as its primary persistent threat, with street gangs operating mostly as static background elements. While standard gang members quickly forgive player aggression once line-of-sight is broken, this mod redirects faction aggression toward the broader population of Los Santos.
