Mob Entertainment, the studio behind Poppy Playtime, has announced a new survival horror game titled Escape from Playtime. The title is headed to PC via Steam early access, though a specific release date has not yet been set.

Gameplay and Mechanics

Unlike the single-player episodic structure of Poppy Playtime, Escape from Playtime is built for 1-4 players. The game casts you as one of the Smiling Critters, tasked with scavenging materials for a building project to escape the factory. Players must navigate the environment while following directions from an ominous voice and evading the factory's inhabitants.

Key gameplay features include:

  • Procedural Environments: The factory layout changes with each run, as the mysterious voice alters the map.
  • Cooperative Survival: Players must work together to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and utilize hiding spots or alternate routes.
  • Proximity Chat: Communication is required to coordinate, but the game uses proximity voice chat, meaning irresponsible whispering can alert enemies to your location.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC (Steam)
  • Player Count: 1-4 players (Co-op)
  • Perspective: Smiling Critters
  • Release Status: Coming soon to Early Access

While the game utilizes settings familiar to fans of the original series, the shift to procedurally generated levels and mandatory team coordination marks a change in focus for the franchise's multiplayer offerings.
