Capcom is facing the industry-wide decline in physical media with indifference, confirming in a recent investor Q&A that roughly 90% of its unit sales are digital.

While high-profile projects like Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) are opting out of discs entirely, and Sony prepares to phase out physical PlayStation disc manufacturing by 2028, Capcom stated it does not anticipate a significant impact on its business from the shrinkage of physical game sales. Notably, the Resident Evil and Monster Hunter publisher counts Nintendo's controversial Switch 2 Game-Key card sales under its digital metrics.

Sony's decision to end disc support has drawn sharp criticism from digital rights groups labeling the move an "attack on our diminishing rights" and turning customers into renters. Other publishers have argued that physical discs help reach audiences digital distribution cannot fully capture. However, for a publisher already operating on a heavily digital model, the industry shift away from physical media presents few business hurdles.
