Tension has surfaced between Call of Duty developers and players regarding online multiplayer as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 prepares to utilize the matchmaking system from Black Ops 7 Season 5 during its upcoming beta.

The decision has drawn pushback from the fanbase, though official accounts have defended the choice using internal telemetry. According to developer statements posted to social media, players have been sticking around longer and playing more matches since Season 5, citing a 41% drop in quit rates for more than half of players, alongside improved search times and average ping.

However, community pushback highlights contrasting metrics. Official stats noted open matchmaking data showing over 32% higher quit rates, over 14% fewer kills, and over 50% of players leaving 'Not Fun' ratings, alongside a 141% hike in players quitting Nuketown. Content creators and community members have contested search time claims, arguing that search durations are actually up.

The central Call of Duty account addressed the feedback directly, stating that gathering player sentiment is precisely what a beta phase is designed to accomplish. The early beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to run from August 21 through August 25, giving players hands-on time with the system.
