Indie platformer Big Hops is expanding its gameplay options to support up to eight players, with an open beta for multiplayer now live on Steam. Developed by Luckshot Games and released earlier this year, the title trades standard platforming hazards for tongue-grappling, air-diving, and cannon traversal across sweeping deserts, perilous oceans, and mountains.

Quick Facts

  • Update Name: Big Hops Together (8-player co-op mode)
  • Current Status: Open beta available now on Steam via the public 'Together' branch
  • Full Release Date: August 9, 2026
  • Platforms: PC (Steam)
  • Developer: Luckshot Games (Director: Chris Wade)

What Is Included in the Update

According to updates from Luckshot Games, the upcoming multiplayer mode offers the full game experience without restrictions. Up to eight players can traverse the entire game together, with studio director Chris Wade confirming there are no single-player-only restrictions or stripped-down content versions for groups.

Platform Availability and Console Status

The 8-player co-op mode is currently restricted to Steam. Players on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and other console platforms will not have access to the multiplayer update at launch. When asked about console versions by Kotaku, director Chris Wade stated that it is "easier to focus" on just one platform for the feature.

PC players looking to test the mode ahead of its August 9 rollout can access the public 'Together' branch directly through Steam without waiting for the official release date.
