A substantial new PC update is rolling out, bringing fully integrated gamepad support alongside a major optimization pass that delivers a 20 to 30 percent performance boost. Originally planned for late June, controller implementation took longer than anticipated because developers rebuilt every menu and input interaction rather than relying on a quick workaround.
Quick Facts
- Platform: PC
- Year: 2026
- Supported Controllers: Xbox Controller, PS5 DualSense Controller, Steam Controller, Steam Deck, and Windows XInput-compatible devices
- Performance Increase: 20-30% boost via new LODs, optimized shaders, and reduced shadow pop-in
Gamepad Systems and Controller Integration
Rather than a basic port, the newly implemented control scheme introduces custom systems designed to make point-and-click mechanics feel natural on a controller. Players will find a new UI framework featuring redesigned screens, panels, tabs, and buttons, alongside platform-specific input prompts for both Xbox and PlayStation DualSense controllers.
To handle precision tasks like harvesting items, the update incorporates a virtual cursor complete with simulated friction and magnetism. A cursor 'snapping' and 'lure' system has also been added to make click-heavy tasks significantly less tedious during standard play.
Performance Optimizations and Bug Fixes
The technical overhaul touches nearly every part of the game. Developers created new and higher-quality LODs, refined existing building models, optimized several shaders, tweaked lighting and shadows, and rewrote code to minimize frame spikes and visual pop-in.
Property content culling is now staggered across multiple frames to eliminate stutters when approaching or leaving buildings. Additionally, audio compression formats were adjusted to reduce CPU spikes, and police vehicles are now pooled instead of constantly spawning and destroying.
Next Practical Milestone
Players can expect the upcoming special customers update to arrive in mid-to-late July. That content package has been built in parallel with the controller support and is currently moving through final preparation.
