Mojang has finally settled the results of its community build challenge for the upcoming A Minecraft Movie Squared. After a competitive selection process and a late-stage rules controversy, the developer has confirmed that multiple fan-made designs will make their way onto the big screen when the film hits theaters on July 23, 2027.

The Winners and the Finalist Roster

The competition centered on finding the best player-created build to feature in the sequel, which stars Jack Black as Steve, Jason Momoa as Garrett, and Kirsten Dunst as Alex. While the 'Lightning Rod Lighthouse' created by Francisco C.M. took the top prize, Mojang opted to expand the spotlight to include other talented finalists.

The full list of community builds now confirmed for the movie includes:

  • Lightning Rod Lighthouse by Francisco C.M. (Grand Prize winner)
  • Copper Badlands Castle by Rosanna C. (Finalist)
  • Tranquil Taiga Tower by Iola Y. (Semi-finalist elevated to feature status)
  • Tree Village by Ben V. (Honorable mention)

Addressing the Tree Village Controversy

The selection process saw a significant hurdle when players pointed out that the 'Tree Village' entry had utilized blocks from multiple biomes—a violation of the rules established during the submission phase. Mojang confirmed the disqualification of the build from grand prize contention but ultimately decided that the community's positive reception warranted its inclusion regardless.

“While we appreciate that the build was created with good intentions, we ultimately had to remove the Tree Village build from grand prize consideration for this reason,” Mojang stated. However, the studio emphasized that putting the community first was the priority, leading to the decision to include it as an honorable mention.

To maintain fairness, the developer also promoted Iola Y.’s 'Tranquil Taiga Tower' to the final roster, noting that it was the build that would have advanced to the finals had the biome-block issue been identified earlier in the judging process.

What to Expect on Screen

While the exact scenes featuring these builds remain a secret, Mojang has promised that the filmmakers are working to preserve the specific spirit and creativity of each design. The team noted that while some minor adjustments may be necessary to ensure the builds fit seamlessly into the movie's environment, they will remain recognizable to those who followed the competition.

Mojang expressed that both the studio and the filmmakers were impressed by the overall quality of the entries, making the final selection a difficult task. By including all of the top-contending submissions in either the movie itself or the end credits, the studio aims to showcase the talent of the Minecraft community on the big screen.
