The Xenoblade Chronicles 2 upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 is now available, bringing technical improvements and new gameplay content to the 2026 platform. According to a review by Pocket Tactics, the updated title offers a significant performance boost over the original release.

Technical Enhancements

The Switch 2 edition replaces the original hardware's 720p docked and 540p handheld resolution targets with 4K in TV mode and 1080p in handheld mode. Additionally, the game now runs at a consistent 60 fps regardless of whether the player is docked or using the console on the go.

New Content and Features

Beyond visual and performance updates, the release includes several additions for players:

  • Merc Assault: A new mode that allows players to select up to six Blades for combat challenges to earn in-game items.
  • New Blade: MOMO is now available as a recruitable Blade, complete with a unique sidequest and field skill.
  • Customization: Pyra and Mythra receive new outfit options upon completing specific Merc Assault missions.
  • Audio and Menu: The update features new voice lines and slightly faster menu navigation speeds.

Player Considerations

While the update is positioned as a comprehensive upgrade, Pocket Tactics noted that it does not include additional save slots, requiring players who wish to start fresh to utilize a separate Nintendo account. The game is priced at $69.99 for the full title, with an upgrade pack available for $9.99 for existing owners.
