Order of the Sinking Star, the ambitious puzzle game from The Witness developer Thekla Inc., has secured an official release date. The sprawling box-pushing puzzle project arrives on October 8, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: October 8, 2026
  • Platforms: Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC
  • Developer: Thekla Inc. (spearheaded by Jonathan Blow)
  • Genre: Sokoban-inspired interconnected puzzle game

Structure and Scope

Spearheaded by Braid creator Jonathan Blow, the title draws inspiration from indie Sokoban games like Mirror Isles, Promesst, and Heroes of Sokoban. Blow previously indicated that completing every puzzle in the game requires more than 500 hours.

Ahead of launch, the developer outlined a structured three-layered progression. The early game focuses on teaching mechanics like pushing rocks, traveling through mirrors, and building stone bridges—similar to the learning curve in The Witness. The mid-game shifts toward combining those learned mechanics to solve complex challenges distributed across interconnected rooms. While an advanced late game exists, players can reach a definitive ending without completing every single puzzle.

Credits Clarification

The game's development faced past questions regarding contributor credits, particularly concerning creators of the iterated indie projects like Alan Hazelden. Following clarifications with reporters, a PR representative confirmed that Order of the Sinking Star will feature full credits, including the names of developers who made the licensed games. These credits will appear in-game in a custom style designed by Jonathan Blow, as well as on Moby Games and via official press distribution.
