Gameplay and Mechanics
In The King is Watching, players take on the role of a monarch tasked with defending a castle against waves of enemies. The game features a unique mechanic where the player's “gaze” dictates production. By focusing your view on specific areas, such as wheat fields, peasants will harvest resources. Looking away to handle other royal duties causes production to halt, forcing a constant balancing act between resource management, army training, and maintaining the magic guild.
Strategic depth comes from the ability to build and customize a "building deck," allowing players to tailor their strategy to their preferred playstyle. Players can establish production chains to create rare materials, train units like knights and archers, and even produce "flour dragons" to bolster their defenses.
The developers have released a new trailer to coincide with the console announcement, showcasing the blend of kingdom management and tower defense-style combat. Whether you are trading resources or researching ancient magical knowledge, the game emphasizes that only the player's direct attention keeps the kingdom running effectively.
