If you were worried about the future of physical media for your collection, Halo Studios has some reassuring news. In a recent community Q&A on the Halo Waypoint website, the developer confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved will receive a standard physical release when it hits shelves later this month.
Senior community manager John Junyszek addressed the topic directly in response to a fan query, stating, "Yes! Buying the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection."
The confirmation arrives at a time when major physical releases are becoming increasingly fragmented. While titles like Grand Theft Auto 6 are opting for download codes in physical boxes and PlayStation has announced plans to end disc production by 2028, Halo Studios is clearly prioritizing the traditional disc format for this launch. This move aligns with Microsoft’s current strategy of bringing Halo titles to the PlayStation ecosystem.
New Features and Technical Details
Beyond the physical release news, the Q&A provided several technical clarifications for players looking forward to the July 28 launch. The developers confirmed that the game will include a Machinima freecam mode and support for toggleable friendly fire during co-op sessions. Additionally, the game has been confirmed as Steam Deck Verified, ensuring a portable experience for PC players.
One caveat for those planning their local sessions: an online connection will still be required to play in local co-op mode. Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to arrive on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on July 28, 2026.
