Halo Studios has officially put concerns to rest regarding the physical release of Halo: Campaign Evolved. In a recent community Q&A posted to Halo Waypoint, the developer confirmed that players who purchase the physical version of the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X will find a disc inside the box, ensuring those who prefer tangible media have a physical item for their collection.
New Features and Machinima Support
Beyond confirming the physical release, the studio detailed a new Machinima mode designed for content creators. Players will be able to access a freecam, lower their weapons, and control their Spartan while in freecam mode. This feature does not require unlocking via a Skull; instead, it is accessible to all players through specific input combos. The developer noted that this mode can be combined with existing settings like the Acrophobia and Blind Skulls, or by disabling the HUD, to capture unique footage.
The team also confirmed the return of weapon-dropping functionality. Similar to the system implemented in Halo Infinite, players can drop one of their two weapons at any time to share it with teammates, removing the need to swap for a gun already on the ground.
Launch Timing and Early Access
Halo: Campaign Evolved is scheduled for a global launch on July 28, 2026, at 8 AM PDT. Those who opt for the Premium or Collector’s Edition will gain early access starting July 23 at 8 AM PDT. The game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, as well as on Xbox Game Pass.
For those interested in the Foundry Armory Pack pre-order skins, codes will be provided via receipts at participating retailers or included inside the Steelbook for Collector's Edition owners. Digital pre-orders made before 7:59 AM PDT on July 28 will automatically receive the pack upon installation.
Gameplay and Performance Details
In response to community questions, Halo Studios confirmed that enemy AI behaviors have received significant polish since the recent creator preview demo. On the topic of difficulty, the developer clarified that while players can use Difficulty Modifiers, specific challenges like LASO (Legendary Almost All Skulls On) will not unlock related achievements if modifiers are active for any member of the Fireteam. The studio also noted that LASO will feature a curated list of skulls rather than all 42, as some modifiers conflict or trivialize the intended experience.
Handheld users can also expect strong performance. The game has received the highest ratings for handheld play, officially earning "Handheld Optimized" status for Windows handhelds and a "Verified" rating for the Steam Deck.
Finally, the studio reaffirmed its commitment to the "Halo feel," noting that the original physics behaviors—including vehicle and crate launches—have been retained for the new release. In co-op sessions, the Fireteam leader will have the ability to toggle friendly fire on or off, depending on player preference.
