Gameplay and Progression
Following the events of the original Dungeon Antiqua—which is scheduled to arrive on consoles shortly before the sequel on July 30—this new entry takes place hundreds of years later. The sequel maintains a retro aesthetic inspired by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, prioritizing short, concise dialogue and a focus on player-driven exploration.
Players navigate six distinct dungeons using a visibility system where the player's "vision" determines how much of the corridor and nearby enemies can be seen. The game employs a symbol encounter system, allowing players to choose between avoiding combat or initiating a preemptive strike.
The character-building system has been expanded for the sequel, now featuring 10 total jobs. While five are available at the start, the remaining five are unlocked as players progress. Notably, the game allows players to experiment with multiple jobs without resetting their character level, encouraging party customization.
A Return to Retro Design
Shiromofu Factory has explicitly designed the game to evoke the cartridge era of gaming. By minimizing lengthy cutscenes and focusing on strategic exploration, the developers aim to let players shape their own adventure. The title will include support for English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese at launch.
