Konami's horror franchise returns this fall with Silent Hill: Townfall, a standalone spinoff developed by Glasgow-based Screen Burn Interactive and published by Konami. Following recent successes like the Silent Hill 2 remake by Bloober Team and Silent Hill f, this latest entry shifts the series away from its traditional eastern US settings to a fictional Scottish town.

Setting and Story
During a preview event in Los Angeles, hands-on impressions detailed a three-hour opening section set in the moody, broody fictional Scottish coastal village of St. Amelia. Players step into the shoes of Simon Ordell, a young man who washes up near the docks wearing a hospital bracelet and an IV bag filled with dark fluid feeding into his hand. As Simon investigates the abandoned village, he uncovers fragmented memories of his past relationships and life in the area.
The opening sequence leads Simon from a small harbor past shuttered shops and abandoned homes into the town's central square. After answering a ringing pay phone, the protagonist is abruptly transported to an underground bunker before returning to the real world inside a hotel room set up as a quarantine facility.
Gameplay, Combat, and Puzzle Design
Inside the hotel, Simon acquires a portable CRT television that functions similarly to the radio in earlier entries of the series. The handheld device reveals clues regarding memories, puzzle solutions, and enemy movements, allowing players to remain hidden from nearby threats. While firearms including handguns become accessible later in the game, ammunition is scarce, and gunfire attracts unwanted attention.
Rather than functioning as a combat-heavy action title, Townfall emphasizes stealthy exploration and environmental awareness. Players navigate narrow stone-paved lanes, hide behind parked cars, and use planks of wood to block attacks from supernatural foes. Screen Burn Interactive applies its puzzle design expertise—seen in previous titles like Stories Untold and Observation—to outmoded mid-1990s technology, such as dial-up internet and idiosyncratic procedures like reactivating electricity meters using prepaid cards in dark crawl spaces.
Silent Hill: Townfall launches on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC on September 24, 2026.
